Derek Yau

PhD Candidate

Derek holds a Master of City Planning degree from the University of Manitoba, and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree specializing in Environmental Systems Engineering from the University of Regina. He is currently a practicing Professional Engineer specializing in active transportation facility planning, design, and project management.

As a PhD candidate, Derek’s research lies at the intersection of race and cycling. He hopes to leverage his lived, academic, and professional experiences to learn more about the nuanced motivators and barriers to cycling faced by racialized people in Vancouver.
